Re-watch this game: National Championship Game vs Butler
In what might be the most forgettable NCAA Tournament run of the 21st Century so far, Kyle Singler stands out as the key to Duke’s National Championship. Despite one hiccup game against Baylor, Singler had an excellent tournament and led a relatively weak Duke team to the top.
A lot has been said about the easy draw the Blue Devils were given in the tournament, but teams can only play the teams they are matched up against. Singler’s game hit another level in the Final Four, when he recorded 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists in their 78-57 blowout of West Virginia, the highest ranked team Duke would play the entire run.
Singler’s 19 points and 9 rebounds in the National Championship game, along with his two blocks, helped the Blue Devils secure the two-point victory over Butler.
Without any bench points, it fell on Duke’s starters to win the game, and Singler performed better than any other player on the floor.
In the end, Kyle Singler’s performance during Dukes 2010 National Championship run may be forgotten, but that doesn’t mean it never happened. The team may not have been that impressive, but that only makes Singler’s ability to carry them to a National Championship that much more impressive.
