Ivy League Basketball: Top storylines for conference heading into March
The Ivy League has had an excellent 2018-19 season, and their underlying storylines are reasons why you should be excited about it’s looming conference tournament in New Haven, Connecticut.
Being cooped up in New England, I’m lucky enough to have a plethora of Division 1 basketball programs within a short drive. Ranging from High Major’s to Low Major’s, one of the true hidden gems of college basketball has to be the intrigue that the Ivy League provides every Friday and Saturday night.
I can drive a few minutes to take in some Atlantic 10 action, take a trip up I-95 to enjoy the Big East, drive a little further for some ACC hoops or drive 90 minutes to middle of where if I want to hit Storrs and see what the American has to offer.
Then why do I find myself stopping on the East Side of Providence whenever I can to watch the weekly slate of Ivy League basketball?
At first glance, it’s easy to scoff at the Ivy League as a league for studious young men who use basketball as an outlet to escape from their day-to-day academic stress.
On the contrary.
Throughout the season, the Ivy League has given basketball fans plenty to latch on to. Be it a range of talented players, excellent coaching, intriguing title hopefuls and some big name Non-Conference wins, it’s time we as a whole give the Ivy their credit.
Sure, it’s no ACC or Big 12, heck, it’s not even SoCon or MAC, but you’d be surprised as to what the numbers are telling us about the conference as a whole, and where it may fall in the pecking order.
Consider this to be a cheat sheet of sorts to help catch you up to speed on what and who you need to know within the prestigious academic–and athletic–confines of the Ivy League.
