Atlantic 10 Basketball: VCU, Dayton among most likely to grab 2019 autobid
By Stu Luddecke
With just three games left in the Atlantic 10 Basketball regular season, we’ve seen enough to determine which teams will be the threats to cut down the nets at the looming conference tournament.
Don’t let these rankings give you the impression that the teams listed are head and shoulders above the rest of the pack — they are not by any means. If there’s any piece of knowledge that the A10 season thus far has imparted to us, it’s that anybody can beat anybody on a given night. That fact has been proven time and time again, with Davidson’s loss to UMass and Dayton’s recent loss to Rhode Island being just a few examples.
These are instead the teams that have been getting it done on a more consistent basis than the others and have certain factors working in their favor, whether that be coaching, momentum, depth, or experience. I should add as a disclaimer that Duquesne, Rhode Island, and La Salle are all essentially even with the teams in the 4-6 range of this group and that arguments could be made for each one of them deserving to be listed.
Certainly, their potential abilities to make deep runs in Brooklyn should not be overlooked simply because they are not included in this piece.
