More eyeballs will be on the SoCon Basketball tournament than ever before. After a historical season, how will the tournament play out?

The Southern Conference hasn’t gotten this much notoriety and public attention since Steph Curry and Davidson’s magical run in 2008, but this has been a historical season for the conference. For the first time in its history, two schools have been ranked in the top 25. Furman cracked the polls earlier this year after knocking off two Final Four teams, Villanova and Loyola, and current conference leader Wofford finds itself in the polls thanks to a 26-4 record and finishing the season unblemished in conference play.

However, the league is more than just those two teams, as UNC-Greensboro and East Tennessee State are having fantastic seasons as well. So good in fact that one of the most discussed topics among college basketball enthusiasts this season has been whether or not the SoCon could get multiple teams into the NCAA Tournament, but more on that later.

The top-seeded Wofford Terriers won the league by three games, but just how good has the Southern Conference been this season? Outside of one game, the top four teams only lost to each other. The top four teams in the conference combined for 13 league losses, after that, the middle and bottom of the conference struggled.

Chattanooga, Mercer, and Samford all finished below .500 but finished within a game of each other. At the bottom of the league, VMI, Western Carolina, and The Citadel finished league play a combined 12-42 and all three, along with Samford will have to fight it out in the first round for the right to play in the quarterfinals.
