Selection Sunday is quickly approaching. Which teams are still sitting on the bubble and how can they improve their bracketology resumes?

Conference tournaments have begun and therefore March Madness is now underway. For the next week and a half, there will be plenty of shifts in the bracketology landscape and therefore it is important to stay vigilant in studying the bubble. At this point in time, it seems as though the bubble is relatively small but nobody knows how many bid stealers there will be or how many teams currently in most fields will implode. With that said, there is clearly time left to learn about which teams actually belong in the field.

In this edition of my bracketology bubble watch, I will once again dive into analyzing every team in contention for an at-large bid. As is the case every year, the number of teams discussed in this piece has shrunk over the past few weeks but there are still plenty that need to be talked about. Now, without any further ado, here is a quick reminder of the categories I use to distinguish where teams currently stand and then I will dive into each conference.

Lead-pipe lock: Barring a massive collapse, these teams are sure-fire NCAA Tournament teams. They are No. 1-9 seeds in just about everyone’s projected fields and it would be a shock for them to tank out of the field.

Firmly in the field: These teams have the potential to reach the “lead-pipe lock” category in next week’s edition of the bubble watch. Through the first few months of the season, they have put together a strong resume and are in just about everyone’s projected bracketology field. They usually hold No. 9-10 seeds.

Some perspiration: Teams in this category might not be on the verge of missing the NCAA Tournament but they cannot afford major slides in the coming week. As long as they play as they have been, an at-large bid is in their future. These teams usually currently hold No. 10 seeds.

Double the deodorant: These are the squads who would be sweating out Selection Sunday most if the tournament started today. They have work left to do in the coming week to secure a spot in the Big Dance. They are the teams from my “Last Four Byes” and beyond.

So, without any further ado, let’s dive into another edition of the 2019 bubble watch!

This update to the bracketology bubble watch is completed prior to the games on Friday, Mar. 8.
