Big 12 Basketball Takeaways: Kansas State, Texas Tech share regular season title
By Chris Kern
We had an action-packed week of Big 12 Basketball which ended with both Kansas State and Texas Tech earning a share of the regular season title.
The biggest takeaway has to be the play of Texas Tech and Kansas State as they both picked up two wins this week to earn a share of the Big 12 Basketball regular season title. They were both impressive just as they have been all season long. Sure they’ve gone through their fair share of ups and downs but they have clearly been the two best teams in the conference.
The Big 12 has a few bubble teams and some of them picked up big wins while others continue to struggle. The biggest win for anybody this week was likely the Oklahoma Sooners win over Kansas on Tuesday night. They absolutely dominated the Jayhawks in the 81-68 win in what also officially ended Kansas’ Big 12 title streak.
The other team in Oklahoma also had a big week as the Oklahoma State Cowboys picked up two wins this week. Since getting blown out in Manhattan two weeks ago they have been playing very good basketball. They had to close losses against Kansas and Texas Tech last week and then this week they picked up wins on the road against Baylor and then at home against West Virginia.
TCU picked up a huge win on Saturday against Texas as Desmond Bane led the way with 34 points, including six three-pointers. They are right on the bubble due to some recent struggles and picking up a big road win really helps their resume. They still have plenty of work to do to feel safe but the task is much easier now than it would’ve been.
All of these teams had weeks that will impact the rest of their respective seasons. Every week it seems as if opinions on these teams change so they all are capable of doing some damage in the Big 12 tournament. It was a fun week of Big 12 action but these are the three biggest takeaways from the action.
