The Big 12 basketball season was an exciting one and we can expect a fun tournament in Kansas City. How might it play out?

It was a fun season of Big 12 basketball that ended without Kansas earning a share of the Big 12 regular season title. They really struggled to win on the road and that cost them in the end. They finished with just a 12-6 record, which is two games behind the two teams that tied for first place.

Those two teams that tied for first place were the Kansas State Wildcats and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. They’re two elite defensive teams who have been improving offensively as the season goes along. Both teams made the Elite Eight a year ago and they’re looking to advance even further this season.

Eight of the ten teams in the conference will be either in the NCAA Tournament or on the bubble. The only teams not in the discussion at least are the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the West Virginia Mountaineers. Both teams had many issues that plagued their teams with multiple players on each squad being dismissed from the team.

We saw many players put up huge numbers, some doing so in their first year in the conference. The Big 12 Player of the Year race might have been the most exciting it has been in years with Jarrett Culver, Dedric Lawson, Barry Brown, and Marial Shayok all were being considered the favorite at some point in the season. Some people continue to hate on the Big 12 for not having a consistently elite team outside of Kansas but it still is continuously one of the best two or three conferences in America. No other conference possesses the depth of the Big 12.

All of that is setting us up for an exciting Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City.
