TCU Basketball: Why the Horned Frogs deserve to make the NCAA Tournament
Head-to-head Comparisons
While the selection committee doesn’t compare teams to other teams when deciding who is more worthy, the resumes of teams clearly matter in selection. Let’s compare TCU to a couple of other bubble teams.
Belmont Bruins
Record Advantage: Belmont
NET Advantage: Belmont
KenPom Advantage: TCU
Strength of Schedule Advantage: TCU
Telling stat: Belmont’s strength of schedule is 199. Belmont has losses to Green Bay and Jacksonville State, and lost to Murray State by eight in the OVC Championship game.
Lipscomb Bisons
Record Advantage: Lipscomb
NET Advantage: Lipscomb
KenPom Advantage: TCU
Strength of Schedule Advantage: TCU
Telling Stat: The Lipscomb Bisons play in one of the weakest conferences annually in the country in the A-Sun. However, the Bisons lost to Liberty twice as well as Florida Gulf Coast. Additionally, Belmont beat Lipscomb twice. There is no chance Lipscomb makes it over Belmont.
UNC-Greensboro Spartans
Record Advantage: UNCG
NET Advantage: TCU
KenPom Advantage: TCU
Strength of Schedule Advantage: TCU
Telling Stat: The Spartans have no losses outside of Q1, but they really didn’t beat anybody inside that level either. They lost to LSU, Kentucky, Wofford three times, and Furman. They beat Furman twice, which is nice, but Furman is even further off the bubble than UNC-Greensboro is themselves.
