No. 7 Furman Paladins

We’re getting this kicked off right away with a team from the Southern Conference. You all remember Furman. They started 12-0 after beating two teams from the final four a year ago. All they had to do was knock off LSU like they did Villanova and Loyola-Chicago and an undefeated season was possible for the Paladins. Fast-forward four months, the Ramblers were not the same team as they were last season. The Wildcats struggled a bit and Furman ultimately lost to the Tigers who would end up going on to win the SEC regular season title.

The other big thing that nobody saw coming was how good the SoCon ended up turning out to be. Wofford would run away with the title. UNC-Greensboro was not too far behind as Furman and East Tennessee State finished tied for fourth. The Paladins got swept by Wofford, split with the Spartans and ETSU all in the regular season.

The SoCon semi-finals were the top-four teams, but UNCG ended up beating Furman and then lost to Wofford. But Furman did beat the Spartans once before and avenged their loss to the Buccaneers. The only bad loss in conference came to Samford at home. That hurt a bit.

Their NET stayed at 41. They did go down in the KenPom to the mid-50’s by selection Sunday, but their win over Villanova proved to be pretty good as the Wildcats won the Big Eat. But as UNCG learned they had just been left out of the Tournament, Furman was nowhere to be found.
