No. 2 NC State Wolfpack

The final two teams are the ones that Lukas missed on and most of the bracketologists on the BracketMatrix did as well. NC State lost just one non-conference game and that was to a Wisconsin team who went on to get a five seed on Selection Sunday. Their big win came to the 7th ranked team at the time, Auburn. The Wolfpack were two games out from starting ACC play and that put the critics to bed about not beating anyone in the non-conference.

Like most teams that are talked about as NCAA Tournament snubs, the Pack never won more than two in a row, but they did have just one three-game losing streak. That run of games though were to three top-15 teams. All three teams did land four seeds or better in the NCAA Tournament. The Pack had just two bad losses in the conference to Wake Forest and Georgia Tech. But they did manage to beat Clemson and a big one against Syracuse.

NC State finished a solid 9-9 for 8th in a very good ACC. They tied with Clemson and matched up with them in the opening round. That turned into an elimination game which the Pack won to stay alive. The reward was to play Virginia. NC State had a two-point lead at halftime, but went on to lost by 20 to a Cavaliers team who landed a one seed on Selection Sunday.

22-11 overall and 9-9 in one of the best conferences seemed like enough. NC State had been in the NET top-40 almost all season. That was confusing many bracketologists around the country. They believed that the committee was going to use their new toy and get the Pack in. Because they did check in the same spot in almost every other metric site. Their NCSOS ranked second to last in the country and ultimately ended up getting snubbed from the NCAA Tournament.
