Villanova Wildcats (6-seed)

The defending National Champion Wildcats enter this year’s NCAA Tournament as a 6-seed after an underwhelming regular season. Villanova has won two of the last three NCAA Tournaments and a 6-seed seems disrespectful, especially considering Villanova won the Big East regular season and Big East Tournament this year.

Villanova did lose nine games this year, which was unusual when compared to recent years. However, the Wildcats saw strong competition at the top of the Big East this year, especially from Marquette and Wooden Award candidate, Markus Howard. Shockingly enough, Marquette somehow managed to receive a 5-seed in the NCAA Tournament, throwing even more shade toward the Wildcats.

Now, the NCAA Tournament is usually won by a team catching fire at just the right time, and that team might just be Villanova. The roster still has tournament experience, even after losing Jalen Brunson and Donte DiVincenzo to the NBA after last season. They are also learning how to close out close games as seen in their recent play in the Big East Tournament.

The key for Villanova making a deep run lies in limiting turnovers. Averaging over 11 per game, the Wildcats need to play smarter and have their game be as clean as Jay Wright’s suit game.
