March Madness: Top 10 mid-major players in the 2019 NCAA Tournament
By Logan Butts
B.J. Stith – Old Dominion
The Conference USA Player of the Year forms one of the strongest mid-major punches in the country with backcourt partner Ahmad Caver. The two both average over 16 points a game (16.9 to 16.5), while Stith grabs 7.4 boards and Caver dishes out 5.6 assists.
ODU came out of top of a fairly-deep Conference USA, so Stith and Caver both should be up for the challenege vs Purdue.
Dylan Windler – Belmont
For my money, Windler is the best player on this list. Morant may have stolen all the headlines, but Windler has impressed both NBA scouts and college basketball fans as well with his pretty staggering numbers.
Windler is one of only three players in the country (along with Mike Daum and Lamine Diane) averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds, 21.4 and 10.7 to be exact for the Belmont star. Windler’s play, including a 32-point, 21-rebound outburst in the conference semifinals vs Austin Peay, is a huge reason Belmont was able to put together a resume that led to a two-bid OVC.
The Bruins are headed to Dayton for a play-in game vs Temple for the right to face Maryland. But, considering this was the first at-large bid in program history, I’d say Belmont would be happy playing whoever, whenever. Advancing to the second weekend wouldn’t be totally out of question.
