New Mexico State Basketball is looking for its first NCAA Tournament win since 1993. There are a few reasons why Aggies fans should be confident that today could be the day.

New Mexico State Basketball has ten winless tournament appearances since they beat Nebraska in the First Round of the 1993 NCAA Tournament. Despite making seven of the past nine tournaments, the program have not been able to overcome the challenge and pull an upset.

This year, however, feels different. When the bracket was revealed on Sunday, the Aggies saw themselves on the 12-seed line against an inconsistent 5-seed Auburn team. This made them an immediate 12-over-5 upset pick, and there is a lot to like about this potential upset.

The Aggies and Tigers will face off in one of the first games of the day, playing at 1:30 pm EST on TNT. This is the first game in a very exciting Salt Lake City pod, and could be a strong locational advantage for the Aggies.

Auburn, despite winning the SEC Tournament Championship, are just 5.5 point favorites over New Mexico State. That alone should be enough to spark optimism in the Aggie faithful, since we all know that Vegas is never wrong.

In all seriousness, the Aggies are definitely built to push the Tigers to the brink, and could definitely win an NCAA Tournament game.

Let’s take a look at why the Aggies should be trusted.
