Texas Tech Basketball: Keys for Round of 64 matchup vs Northern Kentucky
Three seed Texas Tech Basketball will take on the Northern Kentucky Norse in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday. Here are three keys for the Red Raiders.
After a highly successful regular season, which included a share of the Big 12 regular season title, Texas Tech Basketball will kick off their NCAA Tournament campaign on Friday.
The Red Raiders will take on the Northern Kentucky Norse, the automatic bid from the Horizon League.
Texas Tech is a three seed, one seed higher than last year, while the Norse are a fourteen seed. Texas Tech is heavily favored in the game.
Before we dive into the matchup, let’s take a quick look at how three seeds have fared in the first round in recent memory:
- In the past two years, three seeds are 8-0 against 14 seeds. The last upset from a 14 seed over a 3 seed was Stephen F. Austin over West Virginia in 2016.
- Since 2012, 3 seeds have won 84% of meetings over 14 seeds.
The numbers heavily favor Texas Tech, as they should. The Red Raiders are the clear favorite, but as always, everybody is on upset watch in March.
While Texas Tech isn’t quite on upset watch just yet, they still will have a task on their hands. Two of the better scorers in the country will be on display on Friday, which will always make for a high-scoring, exciting game.
The Red Raiders are perhaps the most likely Big 12 team to make a run in the tournament, and that journey will begin on Friday. Here are three keys for Texas Tech against Northern Kentucky.
