Fletcher Magee shot himself into the record books and Wofford Basketball shot themselves into a game with Kentucky, after beating Seton Hall 84-68.

With 4:37 to play, a Myles Powell free throw cut the Wofford Terriers’ to 67-66 and it looked like the crown in Jacksonville was in for a madness-like ending. That is when Wofford did, what Wofford does. Nathan Hoover hit back-to-back threes and Fletcher Magee added three of his 24 points, on a night where he became the most prolific three-point shooter in NCAA history, and in the blink of an eye, the lead was 10. That was the beginning of the end for Seton Hall as they would only score two more points and Wofford finished the game on a 17-2 run, shooting their way into the second round with an 84-68 win.

The second half began with some history when Magee hit a three 31 seconds into the second half for the record. Then Powell took over for the first 10 minutes of the half as he scored 23 of his 27 in the second stanza, capped by a three with 10:52 to play that gave Seton Hall a 54-53 lead. Unfortunately for the Pirates, Powell was the only player in double figures, while Magee led four Terriers with more than 10. Hoover finished with 18 and Storm Murphy added 11 for the Mike Young‘s team, who have now won 21 straight.

Seton Hall jumped out to an early 12-7 lead on the back of a 7-0 run with big man Sandro Mamukelashvili contributing five quick points. It was after the under 16-minute timeout that the 7th-seeded Terriers took control of the first half with a 22-4 run that saw Seton Hall go scoreless for nearly four minutes.

History was made with 5:06 remaining in the opening half when Magee knocked down the 504th three-pointer of his career, tying Travis Bader, who played at Oakland University for the most all-time in college basketball history. Magee tied the record in style with a four-point play, while extending the Wofford lead to 34-18.

It was then that Kevin Willard’s Pirates turned up the defensive pressure. Powell scored his first points of the half with 4:56 to play, and a Seton Hall 9-0 run that included a three and a couple of turnovers cut the Wofford lead to 34-27 with 2:56 left. Wofford would then right itself, and a Keve Aluma jam on a feed from Cameron Jackson who had eight points, five rebounds, and five assists, gave the Terriers a 40-30 lead into halftime. The big man would finish with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and those five assists.

The sharpshooting Terriers would finish 13-28 from behind the arc, and they will need that kind of accuracy when they face No. 2 Kentucky on Saturday.
