The second round of the NCAA Tournament was off to a strong start on Saturday. Who were the top performers from day three?

Saturday was mostly blowout central in the second round, but we weren’t for amazing individual performances, some top-notch team outings, and some exciting action in the early slate. Let’s dive into the top performers from day one of the second round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

End-Game Heroics

FINALLY. After 48 hours without any buzzer-beaters, or really much late-game shot-making in general, LSU-Maryland delivered.

The Tigers and Terrapins went back and forth in the game’s final minute. First, Skylar Mays drained a three with 40 seconds left to give LSU a three point lead. 12 seconds later, Jalen Smith nailed a triple of his own to tie things back up for Maryland. Finally, Tremont Waters made a tough layup with a few seconds left, giving the Tigers the win.

It was an exciting finish, and the first of the weekend to involve multiple players getting buckets in the final minute and any player to score a game-winner in the final seconds.

Brandon Clarke – Gonzaga

The Zags moved on to the Sweet 16 thanks in large part to an absurdly efficient performance from Brandon Clarke.

The junior set a program NCAA Tournament record with 36 points on 15-18 shooting (!). He also  grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, notched three assists, swiped two steals, and blocked a team best five shots.
