Big 12 Basketball: Texas Tech only Big 12 team to make the Sweet 16
By Chris Kern
The second round wasn’t as positive as the first round was for Big 12 Basketball teams. Texas Tech is the only team advancing to play in the Sweet 16.
This was a down year for Big 12 Basketball. We had a lot of solid teams that competed, but they just weren’t good enough. Many teams had down season, but we still had some really good teams that had good seasons and they still advanced in the NCAA Tournament.
Kansas lost in blowout fashion against Auburn. It was a bad matchup for the Jayhawks as they were ran out of the gym by the better team. They would lose 89-75, but the game honestly wasn’t even that close. We could see some big changes in Lawrence for next season.
Baylor struggled against Gonzaga early on, but they competed during the second half and they made it very tough on the Bulldogs to get the win. They put together a good team effort, but it just wasn’t enough as they would lose 71-83 as they had no answer for Brandon Clarke, who finished with 36 points.
Oklahoma caught fire against Ole Miss in the first round, but they really struggled to score against Virginia. Everyone struggles to score against them though so there’s no shame in losing as they did. They battled throughout, but they would go on to lose 51-63.
Texas Tech is the only Big 12 team still standing. They have been good all season long and they made an absolute statement in their 78-58 win over a very good Buffalo team. All Big 12 fans should be rooting for them as they make their push towards a Final Four.
