NCAA Tournament 2019: Reranking the teams remaining in the Sweet 16
11. Florida State Seminoles
Results: Wins over Vermont (76-69) and Murray State (90-62)
Florida has only lost to Duke and North Carolina (once each) since Jan. 16. They have won every other game during this stretch and that includes their dominant performance against Vermont and Murray State in the NCAA Tournament. And while the Seminoles have looked superb in the Big Dance so far, their ranking takes a bit of a hit due to the fact that they have only played double-digits seeds so far. Of course, I understand that game planning for Ja Morant can be extremely difficult but the Racers still weren’t on the level of the competition other teams faced.
This, though, should not take away from the fact that the Seminoles are extremely dangerous. This is arguably the deepest team left in the field and their insane length and athleticism are very tough to match up against. This team really stifles ball movement and they do not allow their opponents to score inside the arc very effectively. Florida State ranks in the top-10 nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency and it is easy to see why.
Head coach Leonard Hamilton has done a great job with this team and they have the leadership needed to keep a deep run going. Florida State is often overlooked because they aren’t one of the top-tier teams from the ACC but that is a mistake. They are absolutely tremendous and are playing at a really high level.
