For the past seven seasons Tim Miles has led the Nebraska Basketball program, now that he is gone the Huskers enter the Fred Hoiberg era.
As was previously announced earlier this week, Nebraska Basketball has decided to part ways with former head coach Tim Miles and has chosen to go another direction. Miles not returning seems like something that had been decided on for a while. As the season was winding down it seemed that not even a late season run to the NIT could save Coach Miles job.
Leading up to the firing rumors were flying that former Chicago Bulls and Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg was the man Nebraska was targeting for the job. Some rumors even went as far as to say that Hoiberg had already signed a contract to be the head coach for the Huskers. It turns out those rumors were true, and Fred Hoiberg will be the new coach of the Nebraska basketball team.
The Huskers have hit the jackpot with Hoiberg. Hoiberg is an accomplished coach who helped turn around the Iowa State basketball program before leaving to coach the NBA’s Chicago Bulls. The former Cyclone head coach was relieved of his duties with the Bulls this season in the middle of his fourth season after opening the season with five wins in his first 24 games. The coach was unemployed and available, and Nebraska pounced.
The former cyclone head coach has yet to coach a game in Lincoln and Nebraska fans already feel as if they have turned the program around. If Hoiberg operates Nebraska with the same success, he displayed at Iowa State, the Huskers will get their first NCAA tournament win sooner than later.
