Matthew Hurt is one of the top recruits from the 2019 class. With his decision date looming, who are some of his top NCAA basketball schools recruiting him?
Most of the top recruits for the 2019 class have already committed to their respective schools but there are still a few that are still available. Of course, several of these uncommitted top players will wait a bit longer to make their final decision, but power forward Matthew Hurt is closing in on making his announcement. According to USA Today HS, Hurt is planning on making his final college decision on April 19th, which happens to be the day before his birthday. And while Hurt has not officially trimmed his list, he did say that there are four schools that he is focusing on the most: North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas, and Duke.
Each member of this “who’s who of bluebloods” group is heavily interested in landing Hurt, who is widely regarded as one of the best players in the class. A 6-foot-9 power forward with an incredible skill set for the modern game, Hurt is ranked as the No. 8 high school senior by 247Sports Composite and he will be an instant-impact player no matter where he goes. Hurt also recently competed in the McDonald’s All-American Game and that was just another accolade to add to his impressive resume.
With regards to his playing style, you would be hard-pressed to find a more skilled player in the class. In addition to boasting great size for the power forward position, he stretches the floor tremendously well with a pristine jumper and can also put the ball on the deck. He is not the best defender but his versatile offensive game at his size makes him very difficult to defend. Hurt projects as a scoring nightmare for opponents at the college level. As a senior at Rochester John Marshall this season, Hurt averaged 36.8 points (.652/.403/.803), 12.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 2.1 steals, and 2.1 blocks per game. Not sure you could imagine more dominant high school stats than that.
Now, with his decision date of April 19th looming, let’s take a quick dive into the four schools that he is reportedly focusing in on to see how he might fit. (Note: All recruiting rankings used in this article were found via 247Sports Composite.)
