ACC Basketball: Zion, Ty Jerome and Coby White lead All-NCAA Tournament team
RJ Barrett – Duke
Yes, I am aware I just said that RJ Barrett should not have taken the last shots for Duke against Michigan State in the Elite 8, but that is because Williamson is on the roster. If you were asking me for a player in the country, other than Zion, to get a bucket in crunch time, I would choose RJ Barrett without a doubt in my mind.
Barrett has a pretty clear style of play; he drives hard left and draws contact. I am able to recognize that as a viewer of the games on television, so I know every opposing coach in the country knows that as well. Guess what? It works though, almost every time. I am not comparing Barrett to James Harden, but the fact that opposing teams both know these players greatest strength is driving to their left does not matter, because it is still almost impossible to stop.
RJ averaged 21.5 points per game during the NCAA Tournament, which is remarkable that 45+ points were coming from the two freshman sensations for the Blue Devils. Barrett earned his spot on the All-ACC Tournament team on the defensive end of the court throughout the Tournament. Playing second fiddle to Zion had to be difficult this year, but in my opinion it will pay off at the next level when Barrett will have a chance to really shine.
