The Lowest point of Texas Tech’s season

Although Texas Tech stayed awfully consistent from the start of the season up until the Final Four, they did have a poor run that derailed their Big 12 title hopes for about a month.

From January 16th to the 22nd, the Red Raiders lost three games in a row, dropping road games to Baylor and Kansas State, and a home game against Iowa State, their only home loss of the season.

In the poor stretch, Texas Tech did not play their characteristic defense well, as they allowed point totals of 68 and 73, two uncharacteristically high amounts.

Additionally, Culver had a poor stretch during the losing streak, seemingly losing his impactful shot, and making much less of an impact with his defense, hence the high point totals against the Red Raiders.

Ultimately, Chris Beard’s group pulled themselves out of it, defeating SEC foe Arkansas in the Big 12 SEC Challenge, which jumpstarted a streak in which the Red Raiders would win nine of ten games.

Texas Tech’s ability to rebound from a very poor stretch was essential in their run, as their comeback from the skid was the beginning of one of the best 15 game runs in the country, a season-closing hot streak leading into Saturday’s game.
