Texas Tech Basketball: How Red Raiders reached the 2019 Final Four
The High Point of Texas Tech’s season
Can we call the entire season a high point? Probably not.
Let’s go with a run that began following a road loss to Kansas on February 2nd. After the Red Raiders were dominated on the road, they seemingly pulled it all together, and would not lose a single Big 12 game in the final month and a half until the loss against West Virginia in the Big 12 Tournament.
The nine-game winning streak including blowout wins against West Virginia, Oklahoma, Baylor, and Kansas, as well as nail-biters against Oklahoma State and Iowa State.
The sharpness that the Red Raiders operated with was a key cog in the run, as Texas Tech never looked short in any area. Their offense was red hot, as Texas Tech reached ninety points a few times in the span.
Additionally, the defense was at its best, as the Red Raiders stifled top scorer after top scorer, winning several road games in tough environments thanks to their defense.
Finally, the run came at the very right time, as it led right into the NCAA Tournament. While the West Virginia loss kept Texas Tech from making a run at the Big 12 Tournament title, it caused them to experience adversity heading into the tournament, a lesson that must’ve been well received, as they haven’t lost since.
