Virginia Basketball: Takeaways from thrilling Final Four win over Auburn
40. Minutes. Away.
Virginia basketball has had a roller coaster ride in the NCAA Tournament. They have faced a major challenge in every single game they have played to this point and they deserve to be commended for always coming out on top. Regardless of whether it was trailing at halftime to a No. 16 seed (again) or needing crucial plays in the final seconds, the Cavaliers have been extremely resilient and they just continue to make monster plays in the biggest moments. And now, after making their fans run to the convenience store for multiple sticks of deodorant throughout the past few weeks, Virginia basketball is just 40 minutes away from a national title.
40. Minutes. Away.
Just think about that for a second. After becoming the first No. 1 seed to ever lose in the first round just one year ago, this team is 40 minutes away from cutting down the final nets in Minneapolis. After being doubted time and time again due to their methodical style of play, this team is 40 minutes away. After needing incredible comebacks in the final seconds against both Purdue and Auburn, this team is 40 minutes away. That’s the magic of March Madness.
40. Minutes. Away.
And while making the National Championship as a No. 1 seed is hardly a surprise, Virginia’s story to get to this point is incredible. Head coach Tony Bennett is one of the best in the business and his entire team deserves credit for reaching the final game. Playing for the national title is something that every program strives for but not everyone gets the chance to do. Now, though, for the first time in program history, the Virginia Cavaliers are going to have that chance.
40. Minutes. Away. Go Hoos. That’s all I have to say.
