Texas Tech Basketball will play in its first-ever National Championship game on Monday, taking on the Virginia Cavaliers after defeating the Michigan State Spartans in the Final Four.

To call this a surprise would be an understatement.

After months of basketball, the 2018-19 College Basketball season comes down to one game: Texas Tech vs Virginia for the National Championship.

Maybe this wasn’t too unexpected heading into the tournament, but if you would have told anyone 12 months ago that these two teams would be playing for their first National Championships in school history, absolutely nobody would have believed you.

Virginia was coming off of an all-time flop, becoming the first-ever number one seed to lose to a 16 seed, becoming the definition of college basketball infamy.

Texas Tech was fresh off of their first Elite Eight appearance in school history but lost four of five starters from that team, as well as six of their top eight scorers.

Nevertheless, the Red Raiders and Cavaliers find themselves on the biggest stage in college basketball on Monday, as they will play in the National Championship.

The Red Raiders outlasted the favored Michigan State Spartans, sticking true to their characteristic defense, and fighting through a bad game from superstar Jarrett Culver.

Virginia’s game was much closer, as it took the Cavs three clutch free throws from Kyle Guy to sneak past Auburn.

The two best defensive teams in the country, Monday’s National Championship game will showcase a brand new type of basketball. This won’t be your high-octane, 200-point total offensive explosion. This game will be about hustle, intellect, and coaching.

Texas Tech will look to get past their final obstacle on Monday, putting it all on the line against Virginia. Here are three keys for the Red Raiders to win their first National Championship in school history.
