With Eric Musselman accepting the head coaching job at Arkansas, Nevada Basketball is suddenly thrust into a coaching search. Let’s take a close look at some candidates to lead the program.

After four successful years with the Wolf Pack, head coach Eric Musselman will be heading to the SEC, having just been announced as the next head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks. Musselman went 110-34 at Nevada, greatly elevating the program and putting together some of the program’s greatest teams. He proved himself, making Nevada Basketball a nationally ranked team for the last two seasons, and now heads to a higher profile and higher paying opportunity with the Razorbacks.

Musselman took the Wolf Pack to the Sweet Sixteen in 2018 and led an incredible rebirth of the program. This year’s team was very senior-heavy, but there’s still going to be some framework for the next head coach to work with. He’ll have a tough act to follow, as winning 110 games in four years at any mid-major is an incredible feat, even for a former NBA head coach.

The future of Wolf Pack basketball lies in the balance as the school begins its next head coaching search. There will be a long list of names mentioned for the job, and many of them certainly deserve a look. The pressure will be on to make another home run hire like Musselman, but the biggest name is not necessarily the best hire.

We’re going to look at a few of those possible replacements with that in mind. Hiring someone with previous head coaching experience seems like a necessity, but Musselman didn’t have any at the college level. There are all kinds of candidates, both head coaches and assistants, and we’re going to attempt to analyze all of these potential hires.
