Joey and Sam Hauser are two of the hottest names in the NCAA basketball transfer portal. How might they fit at the four presumed favorites?

In addition to recruiting top high school talents, several programs around the nation have turned to the transfer market to build up their talent pool in recent years. While some may refer to the massive spike in transfer numbers as an “epidemic,” it is also a great way for programs to improve quickly and for players to receive fresh starts. For two of the top sit-out transfers in the nation this offseason, there is no clear reason for their departure.

Seemingly out of nowhere, Marquette star brothers Sam and Joey Hauser announced their intentions to leave the program earlier this month. Considered to be a “package deal” by many outlets, the Hauser Brothers represent arguably the most important transfer recruitment of this offseason. With their incredible combination of size and shooting, the duo represents a matchup nightmare for most opponents and they proved as much throughout this past season. For a quick overview, here is a look at each player’s production during the 2018-19 campaign for Marquette:

  • Sam Hauser (JR): 14.9 ppg (.459/.402/.924), 7.2 rpg, and 2.4 apg
  • Joey Hauser (FR): 9.7 ppg (.447/.425/.791), 5.3 rpg, and 2.4 apg

Both players will need to sit out this coming season due to transfer rules. Ever since they announced their intentions to transfer, news has been relatively hard to come by regarding their preferences. Now, though, it seems as though four programs have emerged as the favorites as the brothers are setting visits to each school: Iowa, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Virginia.

Due to their package deal of landing two proven stars at the high-major level, it is clear that the Hausers would impact each of these programs greatly. So, without any further ado, let’s dive into analyzing how they might fit at each.
