NCAA Basketball: Analyzing the Hauser Bros’ fit at top landing spots
Virginia Cavaliers
Virginia is reaping the benefits of winning the national title during this past season. All of a sudden, players around the country believe in head coach Tony Bennett’s ability to win in March and that is not something that should be overlooked. The Cavaliers have been an elite program over the past few years and they finally have the postseason success needed to land even higher-rated recruits. And while this coming season may show a step back due to the losses of De’Andre Hunter, Ty Jerome, and Kyle Guy (possibly Mamadi Diakite as well), they should be considered one of the favorites to land the Hausers.
Due to NBA Draft declarations and the decision of Marco Anthony to transfer, the Cavaliers have the scholarships necessary to target the Hausers. On paper, this seems like a tremendous fit. The Hauser Bros are both superb shooters from beyond the arc and also boast the size needed to be classified as “matchup nightmares.” In addition, while their defensive reputations might not be tremendous, they can definitely fit within the UVA system and play significant roles. An issue does arise in that the Cavaliers need some help on the wing heading into this coming season. This could lead Coach Bennett to believe that they do not have the luxury of tying two of their scholarships up in sit-out players.
With the Hausers in tow, though, Virginia would likely emerge as the early favorite to win the 2021 National Championship. By the time that they are eligible, the Cavaliers’ roster will feature some other proven talents, such as Kihei Clark, and it would be a mistake to overlook how consistent Coach Bennett has been with recruiting to his system. You can be sure that they would have a title contending caliber roster. If the Cavaliers are interested and have the scholarships available (both of which are true), then they need to be seen as a very serious contender.
This is the most important recruiting story in the transfer market this offseason. Sam Hauser is probably the best sit-out transfer available and his brother is not all that far behind (with more years of eligibility left as well). This potential “package deal” would take each of the four programs that they are visiting to the next level in 2020-21 and beyond.
