When Fred Hoiberg took the Nebraska Basketball job he was tasked with turning the program into a winner. The last month shows he is taking that job seriously.
Fred Hoiberg has been given the task of trying to build a mostly dormant Nebraska Basketball program into a consistent contender. The Tim Miles era ended after this season, a season in which Nebraska failed to live up to the lofty expectations placed upon them. Athletic Director Bill Moos decided to hire for NBA player and head coach Fred Hoiberg.
The team that the new head coach was going to inherit, had many holes. Stars Glynn Watson, James Palmer Jr and Isaac Copeland have all graduated. Hoiberg also had to deal with the natural attrition that presents itself during any coaching change. The new head coach was going to have to surround himself with a tremendous coaching staff and needed to hit the ground running on the recruiting trail.
The staff that Hoiberg hired is one of the better staffs in the Big Ten. Matt Abdelmassih is one of the best transfer recruiters in the country and comes to Nebraska from St. Johns. Former Cornhuskers head coach Doc Sadler and assistant from the Miles era Armon Gates completed the on-court coaching positions. Former UNC Charlotte head coach Bobby Lutz has taken on the role of the special assistant.
These are the individuals who are going to be tasked with bringing Nebraska basketball to glory, and hopefully bringing an NCAA tournament win to Lincoln. The staff was going to need to hit the ground running on the recruiting trail. It has been hard to keep up with everything that has taken place since Hoiberg and is staff took over the program. Breakdowns of the current roster and the current recruiting targets are below.
