Jaedon LeDee announced his decision to transfer from the Ohio State Buckeyes to TCU Basketball via Twitter. What kind of future impact will he make?

Jaedon LeDee is going home. Sort of, anyways.

The big man announced his transfer decision on Sunday, declaring his intention to join the TCU Horned Frogs. Unless he receives an unlikely waiver, LeDee will be forced to sit out the 2019-20 season due to the NCAA transfer rules.

Last season was a trying one in Columbus for LeDee. The freshman barely made his way to the court, due to the presence of Ohio State Buckeyes superstar Kaleb Wesson in front of him on the depth chart. LeDee averaged just 6.6 minutes per game, scoring 3.0 points and 1.7 rebounds per contest.

His best game came against Purdue, when he scored 16 in the absence of Wesson, who was suspended by the team; Ohio State lost that game by 35 points.

Despite his uninspiring freshman season with the Buckeyes, LeDee is backed by plenty of hype. In the Class of 2018, LeDee was ranked just outside of the Top 100 by 247 Sports, who ranked him as the No. 22 power forward and No. 5 prospect from Texas in the class. If he committed to TCU initially, he would’ve been the second-best commit for the program, trailing only forward Kaden Archie.

The Houston native was sought after by the Houston Cougars, but LeDee decided TCU was in the best interest of his future.

This past season, the Horned Frogs fell just short of qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. They made it to the semifinals of the NIT, where they lost to the Texas Longhorns.

With Alex Robinson and Jaylen Fisher both moving on from the program, it’s likely the Horned Frogs will take a dip in 2019-20, perhaps on their way to their worst season since the Trent Johnson era.

In two years, however, Jaedon LeDee will be ready to suit up for TCU. It’s a moment coach Jamie Dixon and the rest of the program will be anticipating for some time.
