Big 12 Basketball: Top 5 decisions to be made regarding 2019 NBA Draft
By Josh Stevens
Sagaba Konate – West Virginia
Konate is another player like Lindell Wiggington, he was injured for most of the season. He was in this same spot last year and he was told to improve his shooting from range. He came back, and although in small sample size, he shot just over 39% from three this season. Konate is one of the more dominant defenders underneath the basket as well. All you have to do is watch the Kansas West Virginia game from 2018 to understand what I mean.
He is a smaller forward, which is why most scouts wanted him to improve his three-point shooting for more flexibility to play other positions. He is someone who has a lot of room to grow when given coaching at the next level. While Bob Huggins is a very good coach he does not produce NBA players.
His downsides are that he can sometimes have tunnel vision and think “if I don’t score no one will”. He is also very quick to rotate sometimes allowing his man to get free, or he ends up fouling the shooter. He was hurt most of this season, so he did not have the ability to fully show his potential so his fate will be decided at the combine.
It would shock me if he returns though, as West Virginia players have had a recent history of leaving early and not being drafted with Devin Williams and Elijah Macon.
