Purdue basketball just notched its second commitment in the 2020 class, as four-star prospect Ethan Morton pledged his talents to the Boilermakers.
The Purdue Basketball squad seems to have found itself in a solid groove. The Boilermakers, coming off Elite Eight and Sweet 16 appearances in the last two NCAA Tournaments, are getting in early with their class of 2020. In April, three-star shooting guard Jaden Ivey committed to Purdue, and, on Thursday evening, four-star wing Ethan Morton revealed via Twitter that he has selected the Boilermakers.
This is a major get for Purdue and its fantastic head coach, Matt Painter, who is one of my favorite Division I men’s hoops bosses throughout the entire country. The 6-foot-4 Morton, who attends Butler Area Senior High School in Butler, Pa., held scholarship offers from more than 20 schools, including a bevy of prolific programs.
Per this 247Sports article, Morton says that he ultimately chose the Boilermakers, out of the Big Ten Conference, over Marquette, which is a member of the Big East Conference. Morton, according to some recruiting analysts, is perhaps the best passer in the 2020 class. His versatility is top-notch, as Morton can suit up at the point guard, shooting guard or small forward positions.
Several recruiting Web sites rank him as the No. 1 high-school guy across the 2020 class in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Nationally, the 247Sports Composite lists Morton at No. 42, as does ESPN.com, while he checks in at No. 43 at Rivals.com.
A separate 247Sports story notes that Morton “is tremendous at reading defenses, is a weapon in ball screens, and when he gets into the lane, he always makes the right play.” Painter and his assistants have to feel jazzed up about their new commit’s court vision and selfless mentality.
With Morton and Ivey in tow, Purdue presently possesses the second-ranked class of 2020 overall, and the No. 1 class in the Big Ten, says 247Sports. The future does indeed look bright for collegiate basketball in West Lafayette, Ind.
