Zion Williamson is the projected No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Which teams should he be rooting in the upcoming lottery?

When it comes to the upcoming 2019 NBA Draft, it’s almost a 100% guarantee that Duke forward Zion Williamson will be hearing his name first as the No. 1 overall pick. After averaging 22.6 ppg and 8.9 rpg on 68%, the 2019 Wooden Award winner has separated himself from the rest of the pack.

With the lottery fastly approaching, all eyes will be on who wins the No. 1 spot with the ping pong balls. Because of new changes to the NBA lottery system, the teams with the three worst records (New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Phoenix Suns) have the same odds (14% each) of winning. Making things even more intriguing, the next set of teams below have higher odds of getting the No. 1 overall than in the past.

For Williamson, that means a number of franchises are reasonably in play to land him. So which ones are the best situations? The answer is more complicated, due to the upcoming free agency and a superstar on the trading block.

Anthony Davis has been linked to Williamson in a potential blockbuster trade this offseason depending on who gets the pick. If it’s the Knicks, there’s a very good chance that the move will happen, meaning that the former Blue Devil will end up in New Orleans in a rebuilding situation. Not especially the best situation for him.

Neither is Cleveland, who for the last couple of decades has been a complete disaster when LeBron James isn’t on the roster. Not even Zion could fix that franchise on his own.

But there are still several other teams picking high that are in the mix to get that No. 1 pick. Here’s a ranking of the three most ideal landing spots for Williamson.
