The week got started with an absolute bombshell with news that John Beilein of Michigan Basketball is going to the NBA. Who are the best options to replace him?

That’s right, John Beilein with a stunning move, leaving a place he had firmly left his mark on with Michigan Basketball to embark on a new journey. He will be the new head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers beginning next season.

Now, this is a move that makes sense for Beilein on all levels. He has peaked at Michigan, winning four Big Ten Championships, making the National Championship game twice, becoming the school’s all time wins leader, he gets a pay raise as well. Being 66, Beilein gets to try his hand at one last challenge before hanging it up most likely.

There are reservations, of course. The biggest being his age, and the fact that he has never coached at an NBA level. There are also many positives with this move, one being that it’s outside the box and different, which is much needed in a league with so many re-tread coaches. There also may not be a better coach when it comes to in-game adjustments and coaching the X’s and O’s of basketball.

Pat making a Beilein for the NBA (you knew it was coming) leaves Michigan in scramble mode. Where do they go from here? Do they aim high, or just promote in-house and keep the culture together? With a guy the caliber of Beilein, pretty much any hire made will be considered a downgrade, through no fault of the new coach.

I wonder when the Big Ten basketball coach meet-up is this offseason so they can all toast when it comes to not having to prepare for his teams anymore? With that being said, who are some names that might be interested?
