Clemson Basketball landed a top-50 recruit in a unique way. Will Khavon Moore be able to make an impact with the Tigers when healthy?

Clemson Basketball is going through a big transition, losing their top three scorers to graduation. Among their newest players is Khavon Moore, a transfer forward from Texas Tech. At the time of his commitment, it was met with much fan fare from Red Raider fans, as he was the highest rated player ever to commit to the program.

Unfortunately for both sides, things never worked out. After suffering a broken leg prior to joining the team, Moore wasn’t able to play until January. Coach Chris Beard and the staff elected to not play him the rest of the season, as their roster and rotations were pretty much intact. The freshman forward watched from the bench as the team went to the national title game.

Moore decided that it was best to move on and enter the transfer portal, where a number of power conference programs had interest. But in the end, it was Clemson who was able the get him commitment. If fully healthy, the 6’7 forward has plenty to offer for the Tigers. He can play the 3/4 forward positions on the court but has both the shooting touch and ball handling skills of a guard. His closest (best case) comparison to a recent former Tiger would be Donte Grantham, a four-year starter who could stretch the floor, rebound and play sound defense.

Next. 2019 recruiting classes that could be most influential. dark

Moore is the third transfer for Clemson, joining Charlotte grad transfer Curran Scott and Fordham sit-out transfer Nick Honor. The Tigers also have a soild 2019 recruiting class coming in, led by four-star combo guards Al-Amir Dawes and Chase Hunter. This upcoming season may be a step back in the ACC but if the newcomers and Moore are as good as advertised, the Tigers will go back to being a contender that should be taken seriously.
