It’s safe to say that Zion Williamson was shocked when he saw that the New Orleans Pelicans won the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery. Should he be disappointed?

This has easily been one of the most interesting NBA Draft Lotteries of recent memory. Most years, it seems like just a formality to see if any team gets lucky enough to steal a high draft pick, and it usually doesn’t happen. However, this year changed the game – especially for presumptive No. 1 pick Zion Williamson.

Thanks to some interesting draft changes, the teams that didn’t tank had higher chances to secure a top pick than usual. They also drew for the top four picks as opposed to the top three, so there were more picks up for grabs in the lottery. This was expected to shake things up, but not like this.

With only a 6 percent chance, the New Orleans Pelicans received the top draft choice. They won it in the perfect year, too. With that top choice, they are expected to draft Williamson, a 285-pound unicorn that will hopefully change the future of their franchise.

Now, this might be a bit disappointing for Zion. He could have landed in Chicago, New York, or even Los Angeles.  When you look at all of these options, the Pelicans might not be the ideal landing spot. And they’re not perfect, but neither is any lottery team.

I actually believe that Zion should be happy with the potential landing spot of New Orleans. It’s not the dream scenario in terms of market size, but here are some reasons why I think he should be happy as a New Orleans Pelican.
