The 2019 NBA Draft Combine is in the books following the measurements, athletic testing, scrimmages, and team/player meetings that took place this past week, serving as a huge chance for teams to get an up-close look at their top targets and for players to impact their draft standing.
Some NBA teams put a ton of emphasis on what they see at the combine while others do not and, in reality, it doesn’t have a major impact on the way those respective teams view the prospects they’re focusing on most of the time.
Emphasis on most of the time because, for a small percentage of prospects, the combine serves as a jumping off point one way or another. A handful of players really benefited from the opportunity and are currently rising up draft boards.
Yet, for some other prospects, the combine had a negative effect on their draft stock. Bad play and obvious limitations against NBA-level competition in scrimmages on Thursday and Friday has created some negative buzz around a few prospects. Poor measurements and/or athletic testing had the same impact for others.
