Memphis Basketball: Analyzing early offers to top 2020 recruits
Head coach Penny Hardaway has been tremendous on the recruiting trail for Memphis basketball as of late. How will this continue into the 2020 class?
Memphis basketball has quickly surged as a recruiting powerhouse over the past several months. Under the leadership of head coach Penny Hardaway, the program has landed several elite-level recruits and the incoming 2019 recruiting class is absolutely special. The group, which consists of seven top-110 players, is ranked at No. 1 in the nation and the expectation should be that the Tigers will put together a superb 2019-20 season as a result.
With that said, though, Coach Hardaway is already focused on continuing his recruiting successes into the future. Obviously, landing the top overall class in the country has opened eyes around the nation and he is garnering even more media attention with his activity. Looking ahead to the future, Memphis basketball could be joining the likes of Duke and Kentucky as consistent powers atop recruiting rankings. In order for that to occur, though, Coach Hardaway will need to parlay his recent successes into snagging high-level talent in the 2020 class.
Due to the idea that there could be some “one-and-done’s” on the 2019-20 roster for Memphis, there are likely to be several open scholarships for the future. At this moment, the coaching staff has 11 scholarships offered to high school juniors at many different positions. Each impacts the game in a different way and it is easy to see why there is interest.
