Virginia Basketball: Breaking down the 2019 recruiting class
Virginia basketball has a solid recruiting class coming in after winning the national title. How will the freshmen impact the program?
Virginia basketball is coming off of a national championship victory and that is bound to have a positive impact on the recruiting front. But even before Coach Bennett and Co. cut down the nets in Minneapolis, the program had already put together a strong 2019 recruiting class for the future of the program. With three incoming freshmen and an excellent JUCO addition as well, this is a top-notch recruiting class for the Cavaliers.
It is no secret that Virginia is losing a ton of talent this offseason by way of the NBA Draft. Three major cogs in the team’s national title run in Ty Jerome, De’Andre Hunter, and Kyle Guy will not be returning to school and that is a major blow for this coming season. In order to remedy those losses, many are expecting that at least a couple of these incoming talents will be able to make a major impact. 247Sports ranks this recruiting class at No. 28 in the nation.
Virginia has earned a tremendous reputation with regards to talent evaluation, system fit, and player development in recent years and that should play a factor in judging these commitments. Given the recent history of the program, it is reasonable to expect that each of these players will become a major piece in a superb team during their time in Charlottesville.
Now, let’s jump into looking at what the newcomers might be able to bring to the team. (Note: All recruiting rankings used in this article were found via 247Sports Composite.)
