Casey Morsell – Washington, DC

SG | 6-foot-2 | 175 lbs | No. 53 overall

Casey Morsell is the top-rated player joining Virginia’s roster for this coming season and he might also be the most important. Ranked at No. 53 in the class, Morsell brings an all-around game with the ability to impact each contest in a number of different ways. He is a hard-nosed perimeter defender with the ability to score at all three levels on the other end. He understands when to pick his spots to score and is already a relatively solid ball-handler.

With regards to his impact at Virginia, it is possibly vital that Morsell showcases the ability to run the offense from time to time. At this moment, the Cavaliers only feature one proven floor general on the roster and that is Kihei Clark. And while it is reasonable to assume that Clark will dominate the ball whenever he is on the court, someone else will need to step up occasionally to run the point and Morsell might be the most likely on the list. Although a shooting guard right now, his first development steps in Charlottesville might be to add more playmaking skills.

Either way, Morsell will be an immediately impactful member of the UVa backcourt next season. He is extremely talented as a defender and his offensive game grows seemingly by the day. Morsell put together an outstanding EYBL campaign last spring and his play just continues to reach new levels. I expect that he will be a major contributor for the Cavaliers from the opening tip of the 2019-20 season.

That concludes this look at Virginia’s 2019 recruiting class. This group is collectively ranked at No. 28 in the country and you can be sure that they will be a part of some spectacular teams. The Cavaliers have been one of the most consistent programs in the nation over the past few seasons and Coach Bennett will have these four playing big roles right away and down the road.
