He was never much of a scorer at LSU, but Garrett Temple still managed to start 131 games in his four-year college career. The 6-foot-6 wing was able to fill up the stat sheet with rebounds and assists. Temple was also named to the All-SEC Defensive Team a couple of times as well, which gave him a shot in the NBA as an undrafted free agent.

After a rough couple of seasons with five different teams, Temple went overseas to Italy. He came back and revitalized his career with the Washington Wizards in 2012. He started 36 games and saw his offense improve overall.

In the seasons since, Temple has started at least 18 games every year and became one of the better reserve guards in the league. His size and defense combined with improved shooting skills have made him a valuable commodity, which was why the Los Angeles Clippers traded for him this season for their playoff push.

It was looking bleak for the former LSU Tiger at first, but received his second chance in the NBA and ran away with it. Temple fits the modern-day guard/wing in the pros and an improved 3-point shot has allowed him to stick around.

At age-33, there may be just a couple more seasons left in his career. But teams looking for a practical “3 and D” option should consider giving Temple one more look if they’re a playoff contender.

Career stats (514 games): 5.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists per game
