NBA Draft 2019: Top 25 undrafted players since 2000
While Dwyane Wade may be the most beloved Miami Heat player of all-time, Udonis Haslem has a case for No. 2 in the history of the franchise. He had a great college career in the state, making All-SEC lists three different times with the Florida Gators.
Haslam was picked up by Miami after going undrafted and had a solid opening campaign, going for 7.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game to land a spot on the All-Rookie team. He remained a starter for several more years, including on that 2006 NBA Championship team.
The forward played a big role in not only stopping Nowitzki, but Haslam also produced 17 points and 10 rebounds in the Game 6 clincher.
Haslam transitioned to the bench in 2010 and remained there when the Heat’s “Big 3” arrived. A foot injury cost him that year, but he remained a solid contributor, starting 59 regular season games on the 2013 NBA Championship team.
His overall production and minutes dipped, but he became that needed veteran voice and presence on the bench for Miami, essentially becoming an extra assistant.
The former Gator star has played 40 total games in the past three seasons and after 15 years is likely to hang it up. But it’s been an amazing career for Haslam, who spent all of it with one franchise. He’s not a hall of famer, but is one of the most important pieces on the Heat ever.
Career stats (854 games): 7.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 0.9 assists per game
