After a four-year career at Alabama, where he started nearly every game, JaMychal Green bounced around a bit in his first NBA season. He eventually found a home with the Memphis Grizzlies, where he thrived. It really was a perfect fit for him, as the franchise’s “grit and grind” style based on hard-nosed defense suited how the forward has played all his career.

He was a starter on Memphis’ playoff team in 2017, taking Zach Randolph’s place as the starting power forward. There wasn’t much difference between the two in terms of style and Green was a great versatile defender in his own right.

Green was able to sign a two-year deal this past offseason for $18 million with the Grizzlies, but did get traded at the deadline to the Los Angeles Clippers, helping them make the NBA Playoffs this past season.

It’s been a great four-year run to start Green’s career, averaging a double-double per 36 minutes. He might not be a starter who plays a ton but he’s a great defender and rebounder who doesn’t need to be part of the offensive game.

Green won’t get four or five-year contracts for a ton of money, but he’ll end up being one of those free agent pickups a team will benefit from signing. Consistency is the key with this player, just like when he was with the Crimson Tide.

Career stats (299 games): 8.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 0.9 assists per game
