23) Al-Amir Dawes, PG/SG, Clemson

Another freshman that figures to play a prominent role in the ACC, Dawes expected to start right away for Clemson. The Tigers are replacing their starting backcourt of Marcquise Reed and Shelton Mitchell, and Dawes is right at the forefront of head coach Brad Brownell’s plan to do so.

Dawes’ guardian Ayton Branch detailed that plan, which includes fellow incoming freshman Chase Hunter, to Rivals shortly after Dawes’ commitment.

"“They are losing their entire backcourt and they have Chase Hunter coming in now, too. With Al and him, and alongside quality wings that they have returning, they should be really good. They have shooters and depth at every position. The style of play and how Brad runs a lot of ball screens was big, as well.”"

The 6-2, 175-pounder is a strong, tough guard who can both score and create for his teammates. He spaces the floor as a quality three-point shooting threat and has no problem creating perimeter shots for himself, but if opponents play him too tight on the outside, he’ll drive past them and has the strength to finish inside.

Dawes isn’t the kind of talent who is going to come in and set the world on fire right away. He will, however, provide Clemson with a steadying hand and the kind of player who is able to take over in spurts.
