Georgia Tech Basketball welcomed teams from all over the region to compete and improve, with the coaching staff getting a good look at local prospects.

This past weekend the Georgia Tech Basketball program hosted its annual Team Camp in Atlanta. Coach Josh Pastner and his staff had 96 teams participate and put on nearly 300 games. This event is a great opportunity for the Yellow Jackets staff to rub elbows with high-profile prep coaches and more importantly, gives the staff an opportunity to evaluate talent for future classes all in one spot.

With traditional powerhouse programs such as Pace Academy, Wheeler and Miller Grove all in attendance, the camp could only be considered a tremendous success and is receiving great reviews. Coach Pastner and assistant coach Julian Swartz have been singled out on twitter as being responsible for a great camp. Programs such Southwest Dekalb, Tucker and Mt. Bethel were also in attendance, and their presence is definitely worth noting.

A quartet of scholarship offers came this weekend as well. 2020 wings Justin Thomas and Josh Hall (neither attended the camp) along with team camp attendees 2021 wings Jusaun Holt and Elijah Tucker all received offers from Georgia Tech.

Thomas is a 6-5 170 pound wing out of Fayetteville NC. He currently holds offers from East Carolina, St. Bonaventure and George Mason as well.

Josh Hall is the best recruit the Jackets offered this weekend. He is a 6’9 wing out of Moravian Prep in Durham NC. Hall is currently ranked #52 in the country and holds offers from all kinds of high majors including Texas, Florida, Kansas and Oklahoma State. He is a silky smooth, three level scorer with a really pretty jumper. He would be a tremendous pull for this Georgia Tech staff.

2021 forward Elijah Tucker is an Atlanta local, playing for Cherokee HS in Canton. Rivals currently lists him as power forward, while I have seen him listed as a wing as well. I’ll consider him a hybrid until I can watch him play a little more.

Jusaun Holt is a player I did not know before this event. A 6’6 wing out of St. Francis in Alpharetta, he looks like he is a tremendous shooter. While he doesn’t appear to be crazy athletic, his jumper looks very pure. As a sophomore for the seventh ranked team in Georgia last year he averaged 10.7 points and 8.1 rebounds. He is definitely a player to watch.

The biggest names to attend the event in regards to Georgia Tech recruiting however, were a trio of 2020 prospects, Mt. Bethel big man Jordan Meka and SWD teammates shooting guard Eugene Brown III and lead guard KD Johnson. Due to recent events in the recruiting world, Meka has become possibly the most important recruit on Georgia Tech’s board. With James Banks III graduating after this season and no big men coming in the 2019 cycle, Jordan is basically a “must get” player for Coach Pastner. The 6’9 center is currently ranked #96 in the country.

Brown, one of the best shooters in the 2020 class, is recently returning from a leg injury suffered this past season. The 6’5 shooting guard out of Decatur is currently ranked #97 in the class, but will rise quickly during the upcoming season. Butler is trying (and seemingly succeeding) to close the book on this one early, but it was good to see him back on the court this weekend.

KD Johnson is my favorite point guard that Georgia Tech is currently pursuing. He is a penetrating guard that plays in control and can switch gears in a hurry. Auburn is sniffing around him pretty hard and is always a threat as well Georgia and Seton Hall.  The 6’1 facilitator is currently ranked #99 overall and #7 in the state

Shout out to the Georgia Tech staff for putting on a great event that hopefully bears fruit for the program in the future.
