Isaiah Cottrell is  power forward from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas. His family has ties to West Virginia Basketball with both his parents having played for the Mountaineers. Cottrell is following their path and is going to Morgantown.

West Virginia Basketball has become a very solid school for frontcourt recruits. They have has players like Devin Williams, Sagaba Konate, Esa Ahmad, Derek Culver, and this year Oscar Tshiebwe. That does not include players from their final four run either, but obviously they know what to do with bigs. Isaiah Cottrell is yet another one of those players that appears as though he is going to be a force inside for whatever team he signs with. He is 6’9″ and looks like he can create a mismatch for most teams. He is a little tall for a four and too quick for a center.

Then you have his defensive side of the ball which is by far the best part of his game. He might not be the shot blocker that Konate was, but Cottrell sure can slide his feet and force his match-up into taking difficult shots. Bob Huggins should also love the fact that Cottrell is a tenacious rebounder, more so on the defensive glass, but he still should be able to grab a few offensive boards a game.

He does need to become a little bit more consistent on the offensive side but his defensive ability should earn him playing time very early on for a Mountaineer team that no one knows what to think of for the 2020-2021 season.
