Butler basketball has started to prioritize several players in the 2021 class. In-state prospect Luke Goode has made a strong impression as of late.

Butler basketball is off to an early start with regards to recruiting in-state talents in the 2021 class. The program has already hosted a few players on unofficial visits and that list includes sharpshooting wing Luke Goode out of Homestead High School. One of the best pure shooters in the class, Goode already brings an elite skill to the table at 6-foot-5 with a blossoming all-around game. Butler, though, will likely have to go through a long list of other teams in order to land a commitment. At this point in time, the talented wing is ranked at No. 69 in the class by 247Sports.

With early offers from Iowa, Xavier, Maryland, and IUPUI, in addition to Butler, it is no secret that he will be a highly-recruited player in the class. That much has been evident not only by the programs interested but also by his play throughout the year to this point. In response to an injury suffered by another player, Goode was called up to the Indy Heat U17 team for the Dallas session fo the EYBL circuit and he did not disappoint. Across those five games, he averaged 9.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 10-for-26 (38.5%) from beyond the arc.

With regards to his recruitment, Goode has already embarked on many unofficial visits, including one to Butler in the middle of May.

I talked to Goode regarding that particular visit and some updates in his recruitment:

Q: What were your biggest takeaways from visiting Butler’s campus? Anything that really stood out to you as intriguing or different from others?

“I really appreciated the history of Hinkle and the coaching staff. Coach LaVall has made it a point to recruit me hard and I really appreciate that. I also really enjoyed the business school which is a big thing that will determine where I go. The coaching staff really stood out to me and how much they’re prioritizing me as a 2021 recruit.”

Q: Has the Butler staff indicated how they would want to use you in their system at all?

“They showed me a video of their shooting guards when I visited. They see me as a 2 or 3 that can spread the floor and knock down shots.”

Q: How have you felt about your play in the spring/summer to this point? What do you believe are some of your biggest strengths and areas that you are working on most?

“I feel like this summer has been going very well. I had an opportunity to play 17u and had a great time. My strengths are shooting and the ability to guard the 1-4 position on defense. I am working to better my ball handling and all around being more consistent of a player.”

Q: What are you looking forward to most over the next few months with regards to your game and recruitment?

“I’m looking forward to getting to as many campuses as possible and figuring out which schools I will be looking at in the future. Game wise I am looking forward to finishing July strong with Indy Heat and continuing to show people what I can do.”

Q: Who would you say are the programs prioritizing you most right now? What visits do you have planned?

“Butler, Xavier, and Maryland are prioritizing me the most right now. I have Ohio State and Illinois to visit in the next week or so. Have not set up specific dates.”

Q: What are you looking for most with regards to your future school and fit?

“Just an overall perfect fit. Coaching staff, teammates, good schooling and all the little things.”

Luke Goode clearly seems to be a priority for the Butler basketball coaching staff in the 2021 class. With that said, though, there are plenty of other programs seeking a commitment and this will be a tough recruiting battle. Goode has impressed tremendously over the past couple of months and should continue to see his stock rise.
