A-10 Basketball: 4 sophomores poised for breakout campaigns in 2019-20
By Stu Luddecke
Jared Kimbrough – La Salle
Kimbrough was one of the most efficient players for new coach Ashley Howard as a Freshman, and it’s not difficult to envision him taking on a primary role after the mass exodus that took place this offseason. He connected on 61% of his field goal attempts and he netted an essentially five board, five point stat line in just 18.9 minutes per contest.
He should form an exciting tandem in the front court with fellow second-year player Ed Croswell (who also could have been mentioned on this list for his seven rebounds per game), especially now that big-man Miles Brookins is out of the picture (transferred to Cal State Northridge).
If Howard wants to finally take the Explorers out of the bottom half of the conference, certain players are going to have to step up and replace the numbers that guys like Brookins, Pookie Powell, Traci Carter, and Jamir Moultrie produced in their tenure.
It could take some time to establish a new identity with such a young roster, but Kimbrough should be one of the pieces that Howard leans on the most. Don’t be surprised to see his five & five line creep towards or even break into the double-digit range this fall.
