The Utah Jazz has a late second-round pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Which players should they target late in the event?
As a result of making the playoffs, the Utah Jazz has a pair of later NBA Draft picks in each round – 23 and 53 respectively. They have a few pending free agents such as Ricky Rubio and Derrick Favors that they’ll have to deal with, so who they select with these picks could give a hint with how they’ll go about their offseason business.
Utah has taken some notable college players in the past with second-round picks, including Vince Edwards, Thomas Bryant, Nigel Williams-Goss, Isaiah Whitehead, Tyrone Wallace and local product from Weber State Joel Bolomboy. There’s not much production from this group but it doesn’t mean that the franchise haven’t struck gold from the ladder half of the draft.
Jeremy Evans was taken No. 55 in 2010, who went on to win a dunk contest and have a few productive seasons as a role player. CJ Miles in 2005 and Mo Williams in 2003 went on to have quality long pro careers, with Paul Millsap being the best example. He was taken by the Jazz in 2006 with the 47th pick and was a great forward with Utah, before making the All-Star team in Atlanta and helping Denver reach the playoffs as a two seed this past season.
Utah has shown they can find a diamond in the rough around this area and there are plenty of options that’ll be left at No. 53 in this year’s draft. Which guys should the Jazz go after?
