The Kansas basketball squad has gotten an early jump on its 2022 recruiting class, with talented guard Tre White committing to the Jayhawks.

The Kansas basketball program remains on a roll as it pertains to recruiting. In recent weeks, the Jayhawks have landed guard Isaiah Moss, a transfer from Iowa, as well as former Michigan commit Jalen Wilson, a four-star small forward and top-50 prospect in the 2019 class.

Now comes word that Tre White, a premier participant in the 2022 class who is good friends with Wilson, has also elected to suit up for head coach Bill Self and the Kansas crew. White, a 6-foot-5 wing, gave his verbal commitment to the Jayhawks on Sunday, according to multiple reports.

A rising sophomore at Washington High School in Milwaukee, White moved to the state of Wisconsin from Little Elm, Texas, in February of this year.

Per various recruiting analysts and media outlets, he held offers from a handful of other quality groups, including Auburn, Baylor, Houston, Illinois, LSU, TCU, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. That’s pretty darn impressive, considering that during the 2018-19 term, Auburn advanced to the Final Four, Texas Tech reached the NCAA championship game, and Houston as well as LSU possessed solid Big Dance performances.

Since White is only a sophomore, a lot of the primary recruiting services don’t have him rated as of yet, because their own rankings have yet to get revealed for this class. Regardless, from what I’ve read about this young man, he can ball.

White’s dad, J. White, described his son’s game this way to the Kansas City Star: “He can attack, has a great pullup, midrange jumper. He can guard bigger guys if need be. He’s very versatile. He has great vision and IQ for the game. His size is huge for him in playing guard.”

Tre White runs on the AAU circuit with Mac Irvin Fire. That unit’s coach, Nick Irvin, said of White in the Kansas City Star piece: “He is a big-time player, a five-star player. Actually he should be in the top 10 in the country.” Irvin added, “At the end of the day, he’ll play basketball a long time. He’s NBA. He’s that talented if he stays locked in and committed.”

Sounds like Self & Co. have secured an extremely promising initial member of Kansas’ 2022 recruiting cycle.
